The Schola Antiqua is a professional chamber ensemble made up of members drawn from the St. Thomas’s Choir. The group is dedicated to the study and historically-informed performance of a cappella music written before 1700, as well as more modern works suited to one-on-a-part singing.
The Schola gives regular concert performances throughout the year at St. Thomas’s, and sings during the service on Feast days and special occasions. The ensemble has a longstanding collaborative relationship with the Elm City Consort, a period instrumental ensemble based in New Haven.
Substantial works performed in previous years include Lassus’ Carmina Chromatica, Schütz’s Seven Last Words of Christ, Victoria’s Missa 'O quam gloriosum', Purcell’s Funeral Sentences, Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G minor, and Legrenzi’s Dies irae.
